Live Art Demonstrations:
- Artists of 8th & RR Center: A co-op of artists who all keep studio space in the 8th & RR Center. They work in a variety of media and often collaborate for life-drawing sessions and community outreach.
Glenn Krupka: An independent portrait artist who is a member of the Eastbank Co-op Gallery. Glenn is known for setting up a 'studio on the go' to draw people and public scenes on the spot. He works primarily in charcoal and pastels; he creates beautiful work in uncontrolled environments where he can be surprised by spontaneous poses, gestures and changes in light.
Justin Dearduff: Local art student Justin Dearduff has created an installation piece called "Wasteland" which will be on display underneath the pedestrian bridge, just South of Cherapa Place. His artist statement:
Growing up in eastern South Dakota and spending most of my life here I am moved by the majestic beauty of the local geological formations. I think most of us on this side of the state take for granted the local beauty. I am giving you a look into my version of the local rock formations. Having just traveled to the Black Hills, I do see some influence there. I also gained inspiration from the towering granite spires and peaks in the Needles area and from Lake Pactola as well. This project has made me take a closer look at our local parks and geological formations.
- Washington Pavilion: To add to the family-friendly nature of the event, the Pavilion will feature free kids' crafts from 5-8pm: watercolor mandalas, beading fun, easel painting plus $1-3 face painting.
