A special day of shopping, art and entertainment downtown! The first Friday of every month many stores stay open later until 8:00pm. Enjoy a full day and evening of culture and activity. Visit a variety of retailers, artist venues and fabulous restaurants, plus music and drinks at all your favorite hot spots!

The June First Friday kicks off the beginning of a busy summer for Downtown! Check out some of the following activities happening downtown this evening.

DTSF Happenings:

Downtown Block Party on the Eastbank: Enjoy live music, food vendors, beer and wine for purchase and shopping at some of the most unique stores in Sioux Falls from 6:00 - 10:30pm. Picnic table seating will be provided, but feel free to bring your own lawn chair. There will be two bands each evening. Between the bands, enjoy a Battle for the Arts competition! Admission is FREE. 8th & Railroad Center, 401 E 8th Street

Horse & Carriage Rides: Relive years past as you pass down Phillips Avenue in a carriage pulled by two majestic horses. Discover simple romance in the heart of your beautiful city. Rides will load at the Plaza by 12th Street and Phillips Avenue from 6:00 - 8:30pm. Cost is $5 per rider. Horse and Carriage rides are provided by Eide Bailly.

Plein Aire Artists: "En Plein Air" simply means "in the open air." Come downtown from 5:00 - 8:00pm to enjoy artists working outside along Phillips Avenue from 14th Street to 9th Street.

Street Musicians: Enjoy the sounds of live outdoor music at various downtown locations. From 7:00 - 9:00pm, Jeff Thomson and Kevin Gross will be playing at Parker's Bistro.

Rhythm on the River: Enjoy the sounds of live outdoor music at the River Greenway Amphitheater.  11 Years New, as well as the Washington HS Jazz Band, will be performing from 7:00 - 9:00pm.

Trolley: The Sioux Falls Trolley is another unique way to discover all of what downtown has to offer. It will run on First Friday from 10am - 8pm, and is just $1 per rider, with kids 5 and under FREE!

Other Happenings:

Artists Against Hunger: Artists Against Hunger is a bi-annual Art Show held at 8th and Railroad Center in the heart of Downtown Sioux Falls, SD. They strive to create change within the community using art and compassion as their mantra. The event will take place from 5-10pm on First Friday on all 3 floors of the 8th & Railroad Center! The event continues on Saturday from 10am-5:30pm. Proceeds go to Feeding South Dakota. 401 E 8th Street

Cliff Hangers Gallery: Please visit the gallery to help open the latest showing: TAKE ME HOME "Wanderings of a Contemporary Naturalist", new work by Artist David Sieh. Friday, June 6th from 6pm - 9pm. Cold Refreshments will be served! 126 S Phillips Avenue

Cookie Jar: It's a special Father's Day edition of cookie decorating night! $15.00 for a dozen cookies to decorate for Dad. Pre-registration is required, call 978-0991. Event sessions are held 4-5pm, 5-6 pm, and 6-7pm. 230 S Phillips Avenue

Creative Spirits: Register for the Monarch/Dragonfly Pond painting this First Friday from 7-9pm! No experience necessary - the Creative Spirits artist will guide you step by step. Don't forget your favorite wine, beer (no hard alcohol allowed), soda or water to sip while you paint. 224 S Main Avenue

Eastbank Art Gallery: On exhibit in June: new work by watercolorist Jim Heroux and innovative photos by Black Hills photographer Bonny Fleming. The exhibit will be on display from June 3-28, 2014. Come view the artwork and meet the artists at the reception on Friday, June 6 from 5-8 pm. The event is free and open to the public! 401 E 8th Street, Suite 116

Meso: Borrowing the structure and creativity of the hugely popular Humans of New York, Meso along with Jake Photography will once again be taking candid shots of individuals who visit Meso on First Friday from 6-9pm. They will be gathering sound bites, quotes, advice and stories that will become the captions for each photo. This collection will be shared on its own Facebook Page! 220 S Phillips Avenue

Prairie Star Gallery: First Friday in June celebrates all men: sons, dads, grandpas, & great grandpas. These male artists and gallery supporters will be with us June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. Great Grandpas: Gordon Bird, Hidatsa musician, and lifetime supporter of wife Jo Anne Bird, also in the gallery. Sioux Falls Design Center: It's PechaKucha Night (PKN) from 6:30 - 9:00pm! PKN 20x20 is a simple presentation format where presenters show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. PKN events are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share ideas, design projects, works of art, captivating stories and other alluring topics. Sioux Falls State Theatre: The State Theatre will be open Friday, June 6th from 5 to 8 pm for First Friday. Stop in and see the completely renovated lobby, foyer, and bathrooms! 316 S Phillips Avenue

Sticks and Steel: It's the Lilly Barrack Trunk Show, 5-9pm on First Friday!  For the past 20 years, world-renowned artist, Lilly Barrack, has been designing and crafting jewelry for everyday wear.  Each piece is individually handmade at her studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Liz Amdahl, a member of the Lilly Barrack team who has ties to the great Midwest, will be in store showing off Lilly's latest creations.
