Downtown River Greenway Project Wins International Award

During its World Congress & 59th Annual Conference the International Downtown Association (IDA) recognized the City of Sioux Falls and Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. (DTSF) with a Downtown Merit Award for its work and initiatives related to the Downtown River Greenway Project. DTSF was also recognized by the IDA with a Downtown Merit Award for its work and initiatives related to the Destination Downtown Riverfront program in 2012.

The Downtown River Greenway Project was among 24 qualified entries in the category of Public Space. This category recognizes capital improvements that enhanced the urban design, physical function, or economic viability of downtown and the community.

“We are honored to once again receive this international recognition.” said Jason Dennison, President of Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc.  “This award acknowledges the dynamic partnerships that are created to achieve our vision for downtown.  We share this award with all those who have worked to reclaim the river as a valued community asset.”

“The Downtown River Greenway project is a perfect example of how public and private partnerships can work together to create an even more vibrant downtown,” said Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether. “This award is another reason the people of Sioux Falls can be proud of the good things happening in this city.”

“The Downtown Sioux Falls project received the IDA Merit Award for delivering excellence in downtown management”, said David Downey, IDA President and CEO.  “Each year the IDA Awards Jury recognizes organizations that utilize best practices in our industry. The Downtown River Greenway Project is a shining example of excellent downtown management that delivers real results.”
